Fellow Morehouse Alum. Drafted into the NFL: Ramon Harewood

Morehouse College offensive tackle Ramon Harewood just finished playing his fourth season of football, organized or otherwise, and now he's in the NFL drafted by the Baltimore Ravens.

He was born and raised in Barbados, where he played cricket, rugby, soccer, volleyball and track and field. He majored in Applied Physics & Engineering and legitimately wants to be a rocket scientist when he’s done with football.

Major: Applied Physics & Engineering

Graduation plans: To be a successful engineer or professional athlete

Harewood was accepted for the 2006 spring term at Morehouse College and received an academic scholarship.

"When the opportunity arose for me to at least come over here and get a good education, even if I didn't get to play sports, it would have been better," said Harewood, whose only experience with football to that point had been watching it on television.

Harewood, though, has proven to be a quick learner, befitting his 3.0-plus GPA in applied physics and engineering.

"I don't think it's been too hard to learn, to be honest with you," Harewood said. "Sometimes it got confusing, like dealing with different defenses, but it's never been too hard."

Bob Marly Radio

I didn't really get into Bob Marley until my Sr. year of HS. After being introduced, I was TOTALLY captivated by his life philosophy, music and read every autobiography I could on him. Recently, I did a search for an online Bob Marley radio station. I thought I knew EVERY song he made until I started listening to this online radio station (click here) which plays Bob Marley 24/7. I listen to his music most of the day while I'm working. His music calms me. These are a few of my favorite Bob Marley quotes:

ON WAR

Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another
Inferior
Is finally

And permanently

Discredited

And abandoned -
Everywhere is war - Me say war.
That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the color of a man's skin

Is of no more significance than the color of his eyes -
Me say war.
That until the basic human rights

Are equally guaranteed to all,
Without regard to race -

Dis a war.

That until that day

The dream of lasting peace,

World citizenship
Rule of international morality

Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,

But never attained -

Now everywhere is war - war.

ON UNGRATEFULNESS
"In the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty"

ON FAKE FRIENDS AND PEOPLE THAT R FULL OF ISH
Man to man is so unjust, children
Ya don't know who to trust

Your worst enemy could be your best friend

And your best friend your worst enemy

Some will eat and drink with you

Then behind dem su-su(gossip) pon(upon) you

Only your friend know your secrets

So only he could reveal it

And
who the cap fit, let them wear it [repeat]

Some will hate you, pretend they love you now
Then behind they try to e-li-min-ate you
But who Jah bless,no one curse
Then God will past the worse

ON HERB

Herb is a plant...herb so good for erry'ting....
Herb is the healing of the nation....
The whole world confuse you and you're worried...
you don't have no time to think...
herb is the thing that gives you a little time for yourself...
so you can live.....alcohol make ya drunk....
herb is more a consciousness.
When you smoke the herb, it reveals you to yourself."

"Excuse me while I light my spliff;
Good God, I gotta take a lift: From reality I just can't drift; That's why I am staying with this riff."

"Bob Marley isn’t my name. I don’t even know my name yet."

“One good thing about music, when it hits- you feel no pain”

“D
on’t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright”

“E
mancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds!”

"Overcome the devils with a thing named love."

"My music will go on forever. Maybe it's a fool say that, but when me know facts me can say facts. My music will go on forever."

It's the little things....

I've learned soooo much from being a father. One of my favorite lessons that Aiden constantly teaches me is, it's the little things that make life wonderful. There is no better sound than hearing my son laugh....it's so genuine....and infectious...It's pure joy to see the world through an innocent child's eyes....

As Ice Cube would say, "Today was a good day." After leaving Church, I noticed some kids playing soccer on a field off of Peachtree. Did a u-turn, parked and Aiden and I proceeded to watch some 4 year olds play soccer. We had a ball. Aiden being Aiden, ran up to the kids on the sideline and kicked their ball away from them
. They were amused and began to show Aiden how to do a "header."

Next up, Aiden helped me change out a CPU fan at my client's office. He loves doing his thing with the screwdriver.

Finally, we hit up my favorite spot, Slice. Aiden ate a huge slice of cheese pizza.
The best part of the day is when we got home. After unbuckling Aiden, he climbed up to the front and played with the horn for about 10 minutes (sorry neighbors). Then he discovered the garage door opener.....he opened and closed the garage door over and over and over and over (as I jammed to Monica) for about 15 minutes straight and was amazed each time the garage door went up and down....His mother eventually came out to see what the heck was going on.

Ahhh.....it's the little things...

A Kast Classic

Me and everything around me, is unstable like Chernobyl
Ready to go at any moment, jumpin like a pogo stick
Life never lived up to my expectations, so I accept the patience
Expect the worse but now I'm pacin, back and forth
Inside I'm melting like water on wicked witches
A monster truck done came and ran over my picket fences
I had the best of life in my clinches but monkey wrenches was thrown
Like chairs kings sit on, my prayers seem to long
I fall asleep before the endin, don't even get to say Amen
I hope He understand I be on bended knees
At times, I think I'm crazy, so I say forget it
Or maybe it's the devil infiltrating and like Riddick...Bowe
I've been fighting this since them fetus days
I count from one to twenty, when I'm through, repeat the phrase
It's just a phase, it's gon all pass, but that gets old too...
